ABOUT THE PROJECT

Futures
is an exciting new initiative aimed at building a community of alumni, local businesses, supporters, and students, all connected to create opportunities, raise aspirations, and transform lives. This scholarship scheme has been set up by the university to address the fact that students are facing unprecedented financial pressures, and these soaring costs can be a real barrier to coming to university and completing their studies. A recent report also indicated that nearly two-thirds of CCCU students have considered leaving the University because of the cost-of-living crisis, and every month a student is presented as homeless.

The Future Opportunity Scholarships are aimed at current students facing severe financial hardship. By supporting a Futures Opportunity Scholarship, you can make a difference to a student struggling to cope with the cost-of-living crisis, enabling them to complete their studies and achieve the future of their dreams.

All Futures Scholarships will offer students £5,000 a year during their undergraduate studies, which is a significant contribution towards their cost of living, which will enable them to participate fully in university life. They’ll also receive access to a Futures Coach and bespoke workshops to build confidence and employability skills.

In addition to the scholarships, the Futures mentoring programme is designed to help students connect with somebody who can relate to them based on their professional experience and career path. The role of a mentor is to support their mentee in their career aspirations and goals. The foundation of a careers mentoring relationship is to create a safe and friendly environment for the mentee to explore their future career, build their knowledge and add to their skill set. Alumni and local businesses can join the programme and offer anything from mentoring, coaching, guidance, work placement or even just an inspiring story.

ABOUT THIS WORK

As a video supplier for Canterbury Christ Church University, I regularly work with members of the staff as well as students to develop and deliver various promotional, recruitment, and training videos that benefit both staff and students on a wide range of topics.

For this project, I worked with Sara and her team on the newly announced Futures programme and helped develop a shootable script that encompassed all of the required elements of the programme, on a tight deadline and delivery date ahead of the launch event in February 2023. This involved filming multiple talking head interviews with a wide range of current students, staff members and alumni across both the Canterbury and Medway campuses.
