BIOGRAPHY

Syd is an award-winning filmmaker, freelance writer/director and creative producer based in Kent with a decade of experience working across narrative, documentary and digital content.

His short film portfolio includes a wide range of horror, comedy-drama and documentary projects that have played at film festivals worldwide including FrightFest, London Short Film Festival, BFI Future Film Festival, British Shorts Berlin, Encounters and Leeds International Film Festival. He has also produced work that Alter, BBC Arts, BFI, Shorts International, Omeleto and Peccadillo Pictures have distributed.

Outside of film and TV production, he has created branded documentaries and online content for Amazon LaunchpadHasbro UK, Confused.com, Visit Maidstone, Growing Green, NIAB and Folkestone & Hythe Council.

Syd is co-founder of Squid Shack Studios, an emerging production company currently being supported by Create South East and The Kent Foundation. He is passionate about creating and distributing Kent-based stories and in 2020, he released his debut documentary feature, Micropubs - The New Local looking at the Kentish micropub movement and British craft beer revolution which has played international film festivals and is now available to stream worldwide on Amazon Prime, Tubi and GuideDoc.

Syd is currently an associate member of Directors UK and the brand new Bafta Connect career development programme for future creative industry leaders, following three years on the BFI Network x Bafta Crew scheme for emerging creatives. 

He is currently developing his second documentary feature about independent cinemas in Kent, and first fiction feature, Hush Little One, a supernatural thriller in development with Rebel Yeah! that explores British folklore and childhood fears with Mandip Gill (Doctor Who, Curfew) and Alexander Lincoln (In From The Side, Emmerdale) attached in lead roles.
